Witch są Strażniczkami Sieci, którą stworzono, aby oddzielić siły zła i nieszczęścia od Ziemi. Obecnie Sieć jest niezwykle słaba, dlatego przed Czarodziejkami stoi bardzo trudne zadanie. Na szczęście wspomagają je moce żywiołów:

Gdy się przetłumaczy "What If..." czyli "co by było gdyby..." to od razu dowiemy się czym tak naprawdę ta seria jest. W zamierzeniu serii jest pokazanie, świata lub sytuacji, gdyby rzeczy poszły nie tak lub historia potoczyła się w inną stronę. Wśród wielu zeszytów, można zobaczyć, co byłoby gdyby Spiderman (w pierwszych zeszytach starał się o przyjęcie do tej grupy, ale został co najmniej chłodno przyjęty ;)) dołączył do Fantastycznej Czwórki, lub Wolverine zabił Hulka itd.

Nawet sobie nie wyobrażasz, że za chwilę twoje życie zostanie na zawsze straszliwie odmienione. Ach, pan Andrew Potts... dokładnie na sygnał. Nie znałeś Andy'ego długo... poznałeś go zaledwie parę dni temu na posterunku. Wydawał się być miłym facetem... miał żonę i dwójkę dzieci w Bostonie, uwielbiał Red Sox, żuł z otwartymi ustami. Nagle teraz, jest tam... leżący u twych stóp tak zupełnie i kompletnie martwy jak to tylko możliwe. Więc co teraz robisz Malcolnie? Ponieważ masz teraz o wiele większe zmartwienia niż biedny Andy Potts z Bostonu, prawda? Dyrektor budzi się z krzykiem z kolejnego koszmaru. Nawet we własnych snach nie może pokonać Logana. Co noc śni mu się wieczór gdy był młodym, niedoświadczonym żołnierzem pilnującym ośrodka Programu Weapon X. Wtedy właśnie Eksperyment X uciekł. Tej nocy twarz Dyrektora została nieludzko zmasakrowana. We śnie Malcolm pozornie wygrywa z Loganem, zabija go i całą resztę mutantów. Jednakże na koniec zawsze pada ofiarą pazurów Wolverine'a.
